guitarist, singer (Johnny Nitro & The Doorslammers)
02.09.1951 - 19.02.2011
Mr. Nitro, whose real name was John Newton, grew up in Sacramento. When he was 13, he saved his lunch money and bought his first guitar from a pawn shop, teaching himself to play by listening to friends' B.B. King records. Blues singer/songwriter/guitarist John "Johnny Nitro" Newton was an integral part of the Bay Area blues scene. He is best known for being the writer of "Too Many Dirty Dishes," a song made famous by Albert Collins. He was a fine singer, guitarist, and bandleader who would often perform with many of the resident blues legends in the Bay Area.
